The appeal court in French Polynesia has given a suspended one-year jail sentence to an opposition assembly member, Lana Tetuanui, for corruption.
The court has also given her husband, Cyril Tetuanui, the same sentence for abusing public funds in 2002 when he was a mayor on Raiatea.
The two have also each been fined 6,500 US dollars.
The ruling says Lana Tetuanui is ineligible for one year and her husband for four years.
Their lawyer says the court decided against applying the electoral law provision which would have given the couple a five-year ineligibility.
It is not known if the two will appeal the decision in France.
