Public and private professional bodies in Papua New Guinea have made a collective call for the Government to seek help from around the Pacific to combat the escalating crime problems in the country.
Co-ordinator, accountant Watt Kiddie, says crime have escalated and the Government agencies have shown they are incapable of dealing with the problems.
He says they have recommended the Government needs to seek assistance from Pacific countries to help restore law and order and to rebuild public agencies.
Mr Kiddie envisages a combination of Australia's former Enhanced Co-operation Programme and the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
"We would like that combination where we could have all the Pacific Island countries come together, like the Australians, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji, come together and come in and work with our guys here and correct the situation because our law enforcing agencies have lost their independence and a lot of them are involved in the corruption."
