Wallis gets new French administrator

The French government has named a new administrator for Wallis and Futuna.

Michel Aubouin will replace Michel Jeanjean at the end of March.

The administrator has executive powers, implementing the territorial assembly's decision.

In Wallis and Futuna, the French republic recognises three kingdoms.

Meanwhile, for the first time a woman is standing as a candidate in Wallis and Futuna in an attempt to secure the territory's only seat in the French National Assembly.

Lauriane Verge will stand in the polls called for March the 17th after last month's French constitutional court ruling which annulled last year's result recorded in Wallis and Futuna.

The court also stripped her husband, David Verge, of his seat after he was found guilty of irregularities in his campaign account.

He has also been banned from running for office for a year.
