The Governor of the Central Bank in Samoa is confident the brightly coloured new bank notes now circulating in Samoa will help the authorities in cracking down on counterfeiting operations.
The new 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 tala notes cost about 2.8 million US dollars to make.
Samoa commissioned De La Rue of England to design and print 9.4 million new bank notes.
Cabinet approved the measure last year and Leasi Papalii Scanlan says it's taken a while to get the new notes
"I'm very happy. I was personally involved in the design of the notes, and I insisted on the colour being as bright and the designs. and the security features that were designed using the latest security technology."
