The American Samoa government is reported to be discussing a plea agreement with the defence in the case of former police captain Papalii Marion Fitisemanu.
Papalii who is out on bail of US$20,000 is charged with five counts of embezzlement and unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.
The government alleges that he removed five weapons form the Department of Public Safety evidence room, which was under his supervision and sent four of them to Samoa while the fifth one he retained at his home.
Paplii's attorney, David Vargas, had asked the court to postpone the preliminary examination for his client.
He said he needed to discuss the charges against his client and decide a plea.
