New Caledonia's recently formed Labour Party says it will no longer meet the French high commissioner, Yves Dassonville.
This comes amid continued acrimony between the mainly Kanak USTKE Union, which is behind the Labour Party, and the French authorities.
22 unionists have been given jail sentences following clashes in January but their convictions have been appealed.
After a police intervention at a picket, the Labour Party told the local newspaper that they cancelled a meeting with Mr Dassonville and no longer wish to have encounters with him.
