The National University of Samoa began an experiment in saving power and cutting the

university's power bill last Friday by switching off all air conditions and lights at the Institute of High Education at the Le Papaigalagala campus.

Under Operation Friday Switch Off,computers and fans are the only electrical equipment that can be used.

The Newsline newspaper reports that the power saving exercise will be held every Friday.

The NUS Vice Chancellor, Magele Muailiu, thinks it create substantial savings.

He says the cost saving measures are inspired by the findings of a 2 year efficiency management project funded by Japan.
