The Central Bank says the Solomon Islands economy will perform strongly this year.

The bank's deputy governor, Denton Rarawa ,says based on results from the first half of the year - the economy will perform more strongerly than earlier forecasted with a growth rate of up to eight per cent.

He says this is being made possible by the ongoing confidence in the business sector and entry of new investors.

But the bank warns that economic growth will start to decline in 2009 with the decline of the logging sector.
