American Samoa based Inter Island Airways has requested the U.S. Department of Transportation or DOT grant South Pacific Express' application to operate both passenger and charter flights between the two Samoas.
Inter Island says Samoa is a party to the Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation broadening air transport services between the U.S. and Samoa, and the inter-Samoa route is within the scope of the agreement and is open to U.S. carriers.
It points out that Inter Island and Polynesian Airlines are currently serving the same route within the scope of the agreement.
