New Plymouth to host first All Blacks rugby test

New Plymouth will host its first All Blacks test with the announcement they'll play Samoa there in September.

The match will be played on September 3rd, and is a bye week for the All Blacks in the tri nations competition.

New Zealand rugby union CEO Steve Tew says the All Blacks needed another match as there's a four week break between their match against South Africa in Cape Town in mid August and their last game of the tournament, against Australia in Brisbane in mid September.

Tew says they had hoped to play Argentina but problems with arranging the release of Argentina's top players from their European clubs ruled that out.

The All Blacks have played four Tests against Samoa, with the most recent seven years ago, which the All Blacks won 50-6.
