The Acting Commissioner of Police in Solomon Islands, Peter Marshall, has denied that the police is being given fire arms training.
This was claimed by the opposition leader, Manasseh Sogavare, who says the local police Close Personal Protection officers are receiving firearm training by members of RAMSI's Participating Police Force.
But Mr Marshall has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that he is not aware of any such arms training being given.
He says what he is aware of is a recent training exercise, in which local officers and their foreign counterparts conducted a scenario to ensure the roles of all personnel involved in close personal protection were clearly identified and understood if faced with an armed confrontation.
He says the exercise didn't involve any local officer using firearms or receiving any form of firearm training.
