Grand coalition proposed to end political instability in French Polynesia

A French Polynesian member of the French assembly, Bruno Sandras, has proposed a grand coalition to end the political instability.

Mr Sandras has told local television that it would take courage for the three parties in the assembly to move forward in such a way and he says the territory cannot continue for five years with the politics of recent time.

There have been three presidents this year, and the government formed last month has had a reshuffle with another reshuffle expected this week.

He says to hold fresh elections after the recent polls in February won't solve anything.

Instead he says there should be an election of the president by universal suffrage and making the presidency a separate institution .
