The National Council of Women in Solomon Islands says there is need to strengthen community policing in Honiara.

The General Secretary of the Council Ella Kauhue says this following reports that some women and girls have been raped near a night club in west of Honiara

She says establishing community policing in Honiara would help the communities work with the police to make their areas safe.

Ms Kauhue says everyone in the community needs to campaign against the growing gang problems and the rapes and other violence that appear to be growing alongside increased alcohol abuse, kwaso and marijuana use.

She has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that Honiara city has a critical and a very serious issue on its hands and it must find effective ways of addressing it and to make the city safer for its women.
