The High Court in Fiji has heard from a doctor at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital that a Tevita Malasebe's death was due to internal injuries.
Eight Fiji policemen charged with the murder of Mr Malasebe, who had been a suspect in their custody, have pleaded not guilty.
The police had taken 30-year old from his home in Nasinu one night early in June 2007 and his mother found him dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva the next morning.
Dr Prasant Sambekar told the High Court that more than 40 visible bruises and abrasions that were found on Tevita's body had been sustained from blunt objects forced against his body.
Dr Sambekar said the soles of his feet and hands appear to have been struck with a blunt object and possibility by blow or blows to them.
The case continues today in the High Court.
