The president of Palau, Tommy Remengesau Jr., has asked voters to reject a proposed constitutional amendment that calls for the president and vice president to be elected separately.
He has told the Palau Horizon that the issue was addressed during the 2004 elections and needs not be brought up again in this year's election.
He says the two highest leaders of the land should have a strong relationship and share the same opinions so that there is consistency in their policies.
President Remengesau says he will be discussing the proposed constitutional amendments at every press conference so that the public will be informed about the government's stand on this issue.
