Samoa ruling HRPP party caucus remains loyal to leader

The leader of Samoa's ruling Human Rights Protection party or HRPP, prime minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, is still the preferred leader with most party MPs.

An HRPP supporter says a caucus meeting last weekend ended with most MPs backing the prime minister.

The supporter says MPs were given the chance to speak out on any issues including the controversial switch to the other side of the road, as well as a change of leadership.

But the caucus gathering ended without anyone opposing the party leader.

The meeting follows reports of seven MPs threatening to resign because of the proposed legislation which would change side of the road for vehicles to use in Samoa.
