The Solomon Islands Minister of Infrastructure Development is planning to table a paper in Parliament next month to legislate a proposed National Transport Fund.
Stanley Sofu says under the proposed legislation, the National Government will take over the responsibility to maintain feeder roads in the provinces and in Honiara.
He says currently the provincial governments and Honiara City Council are responsible for ensuring feeder roads are in good condition.
He says his ministry is responsible for repairing national roads, but it will be responsible for ensuring all roads are in good condition once the National Transport Fund is governed by the piece of legislation.
Mr Sofu says the legislation of the fund obligates the government to contribute annually into it and ensure funds are available for maintenance of infrastructure.
