United States urges FIRCA an early resolution with Fiji Water

The United States is urging the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority to come to an early resolution with Fiji Water.

Natural Waters of Viti, which makes Fiji Water, has filed a judicial review over FIRCA blocking its exports over price differences in the product's valuation.

The Fiji Live website reports that the US Ambassador Larry Dinger says Fiji Water has offered to submit the dispute to binding arbitration in which the two parties would agree on a reputable, neutral arbitrator to independently consider the facts and make a final judgment.

He says it has become common to submit issues like this to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, like binding arbitration, rather than burden court systems with such cases.

He hopes FIRCA will consider the proposal, or any other sensible suggestion to achieve a rapid, equitable resolution of the dispute.
