The Tatou Aia coalition has established itself as French Polynesia's dominant political force following the second round of the early general election.
Unofficial results show it has won 27 of the assembly's 57 seats with the Union for Democracy securing 20 and the Tahoeraa Huiraatira 10.

"Formed late last year and aligned with the new French leadership, the Tatou Aia coalition is made up of mainly former Tahoeraa politicians, party hoppers of the past assembly and a mix of pro and anti independence advocates. Describing itself as a force of stability it is now aiming to broaden its support to form a majority for the next 5 years. All options are on the table but after the Tahoeraa surprised arrangement with the pro-independence Union for Democracy last year, key positions may again elude the election winner, with a range of corruption probes still open the voter's choice may yet be undone by the Judiciary. Those awaiting further questioning include the man of the moment, the Tatou Aia leader, Gaston Tong Sang."
