A criminal court in French Polynesia has fined a government minister for corruption.
Gilles Tefaatau was fined 6,200 US dollars for having hired his girlfriend within his ministry while she was already on the pay roll of the Mahina town administration.
The abuse took place over several months in 2005.
The verdict has no effect on the eligibility of Gilles Tefaatau who remains a candidate of the Union For Democracy in next week's second round of the early election to choose a new 57-member assembly.
