The Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority calls for law changes on the freedom of movement after two residents were killed at the weekend.
The victims are an elderly Australian woman and a young Ni-Vanuatu man.

"Two people were murdered in Vanuatu on the weekend. The two people look to have died as a result of knife wounds. The Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority has called on the government to call a meeting to order the minister for justice to call a national forum against crime. In that forum they would discuss a number of things. One of them is to consider changing the law which allows the freedom of movement by people from the island. Another proposal is for the government to think seriously about setting up a special taskforce, which is to operate above the police, and which is to be given the power to use bullets in pursuit of criminals."

Two Australian Federal Police officers have flown to Vanuatu to help investigate the suspected murder of the Australian woman.
