The French high commission in Papeete has issued a statement to clarify the timeline for the political reforms adopted by Paris for French Polynesia.

In a statement in response to various comments, the high commission says the provisions of the organic law have come into effect with their official publication on December the 8th.

It says this means that the territorial assembly will be renewed on February the 21st which will be ten days after the second round of voting.

The statement says the commission to be formed to control the budget will first have to be set up by the middle of 2009.

It says until then the budget consultation process won't be enacted.
