Second bestowal of Malietoa paramount title in Samoa planned for New Year

2:31 pm on 13 December 2007

One of the claimants of the Malietoa paramount title in Samoa who lives in New Zealand claims he will be given the title next month.

Ronald Pomare Papalii Lafo is a descendant of Malietoa Talavou.

Mr Lafo says he is the rightful person to take the role.

The title was bestowed on Papalii Moli, the son of the late head of state, Malietoa Tanumafili II, last June, but this was put aside pending a court challenge.

That challenge is to be heard in May.
