The American Samoa government wants to have a direct ocean transportation service from Pago Pago to Samoa's Salelologa wharf on Savaii island.

The topic was discussed during the recent Samoa talks.

The Department of Port Administration director, Matagi McMoore, says the territorial government wants to use the government owned vessel MV Sili for the service.

He said the vessel needs to returns from Honolulu for engine work, as well as upgrades to its interior and seating areas.

And it will also require licensing by the U.S. Coast Guard to operate in foreign waters.
