A site in American Samoa that is important to the French has been restored after two years' work.
A 123-year-old mounted plaque at Massacre Bay on Tutuila Island is dedicated to 12 French sailors who died during a fight with local people.
They were on a scientific trip in 1787, led by the French explorer La Perouse.
John Enright of the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office says there is constant French interest in the remote site:
"Basically every year we are visited by a French warship of one type or another who have gone to pay their respects to the French sailors who fell there."
