Kiribati voters go to the polls today to cast their vote at this year's general election.
Over 40-thousand registered voters in 23 electorates are expected to vote for their choice of candidate for the 44-seat parliament.
Since the last election four years ago, the number of seats being contested has increased, as well as the number of registered voters.
Moera Tuilaepa-Taylor reports.
"Kiribati's Electoral commissioner says voters have from 7am until 6pm to visit the polling booth. Rine Ueara says 146 candidates are contesting this year's election, and although there are 43,184 registered voters this time round, the Commissioner says in past elections, voter turnout was low. She hopes this time people will make more of an effort to have their say. Results are expected to be known by tomorrow, or Friday morning at the latest."
