The Silver Ferns netball coach, Ruth Aitken says the addition of Samoan Sheryl Scanlan is a huge asset to the defence area, and will hopefully cover the gap left by Vilimaina Davu whose now the Fiji national coach.

Aitken named her side for the netball series against Jamaica and Australia which includes one new cap the Canterbury Flames Maree Bowden.

Aitken says Bowden offers strong options at wing attack and at centre.

"And in terms of Sheryl Scanlan a 42 test wonderfully experienced defender, a defender who has really stood out in those top games like the World Champs final the Commonwealth Games in 2002 she's a big game player."

The team is: Irene van Dyk, Maria Tutaia, Jodi Te Huna, Paula Griffin; Adine Wilson, Maree Bowden, Laura Langman, Julie Seymour; Leana de Bruin, Casey Williams, Joline Henry, Sheryl Scanlan..

The selectors have also added shooters Jade Topia and Daneka Wipiti and midcourter Liana Barrett-Chase to the squad to bring it to its capacity of 18 players.
