Another motion of no-confidence in Prime Minister Ham Lini has failed in Vanuatu's parliament.

The motion of no-confidence moved against Mr Lini last week by the-then opposition leader Serge Vohor has been withdrawn, after Mr Vohor and his UMP members defected to government.

The move secured the coalition government a majority in the 52-seat house again, following the departure of the Vanuaaku Pati from the coalition last week.

The Speaker of the House, Sam Dan Avock, says it's the seventh time a motion of no-confidence against Mr Lini has either been withdrawn or defeated.

He says this time there were a number of late withdrawals of signatures supporting the motion.

"Last week, it was on Thursday, I received letters from the members of parliament in the Vanuaaku Pati, that they were withdrawing their support for the motion decided to withdraw their signatures from the motion so they have to support the government. The green party, they had to withdraw as well. I could see from the Chamber that they'd moved to strengthen the government side."
