Lawmakers in American Samoa will decide the final version of Governor Togiola Tulafono's guest worker permit legislation this week.
The initial language of the bill allows foreign nationals from Samoa, Tonga, Tokelau and other Pacific islands to work in the territory for the canneries, call centres and manufacturing industry.
However, the Senate amended and passed its version of the bill, saying that only workers from Samoa are allowed to enter the territory to work at the canneries.
The House amended its version saying that only workers from Samoa, Tonga and Tokelau are allowed in the program to work at the canneries and call centres.
House members are expected to make a final decision today on its version and the Senate version of the bill.
If the House disagrees with the Senate version, a conference committee will be called to iron out a final version for submission to the governor for his review.
