Fiji's parliament has been suspended from the 148-member Inter Parliamentary Union.
Although Fiji's parliament was dissolved after the military takeover in December last year, the suspension decision took place when the Inter Parliamentary Union held its assembly in Bali last week.
The former secretary general to parliament who was sacked by the interim administration, Mary Chapman, has told Fiji TV the country was also suspended from the IPU after the coups in 1987 and 2000.
Ms Chapman says Fiji was one of only two countries in the Pacific which were members of the IPU.
Fiji cannot be re-admitted to the Inter Parliamentary Union until sometime after the next general elections.
