People in Solomon Islands Western Province continue to live in fear of another big earthquake after yesterday's 5.4 quake 40 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital, Gizo.
It shook the same part of the country where a big earthquake and tsunami on April 2nd killed 52 people and left thousands homeless.
A provincial government member and Western Province Tourism official, Danny Kennedy, says there were reports of houses being toppled on the island of Mono although Gizo appeared to have suffered little damage.
But he says the latest quake has only added to the fear of another tsunami that's lingered since the disaster at the start of the month.
"We've had quite a number of earthquakes since then, and yesterday's one seemed like it was far more in excess of what they've actually listed it as (5.4). I realise it's probably a good sign in geological terms but at the same time this is keeping all of the people up in the hills and keeping them quite scared and intimidated about a similar event taking place."
