Pacific Islands Forum delegates have met in Suva to discuss the situation in Fiji.
Officials from nine member countries have agreed on terms of reference for the new group to discuss the Fiji crisis.
In a statement the Forum says the group will be called the Pacific Islands Forum-Fiji Joint Working Group on the Situation in Fiji.
It will be chaired by the representative of Papua New Guinea as the Forum Chair.
The group will discuss as priority issues the restoration of civilian rule, the upholding of the 1997 Constitution and the cessation of human rights abuses and addressing allegations of abuse.
Its next meeting will be held next week.
