Common Cause American Samoa says mismanagement widespread

An anti-corruption watchdog in American Samoa, Common Cause, says it's called for the governor and the lt. governor to step down because of mounting concerns over widespread mismanagement.

A board member, Dale Long, says it is not only the local office of Homeland Security where issues over funds and spending have surfaced, resulting in the suspension of the director.

He says the Department of Education, the Hospital, and many government agencies eat up a lot of money but can be inefficient and provide little in the way of services.

Mr Long says the governor, Togiola Tulafono, should go.

"The governor and his cronies are doing quite well and the rest of us are paying for broken parts for our cars because of roads, hospitals that we're afraid to go to, funds not forthcoming because of actions of our people. The governor is the captain of this ship and it is floundering and about to sink, and we've called for him to step down."
