UNAIDS has welcomed the announcement by Fiji's Interim administration that it will maintain the nearly three hundred thousand US dollar allocation for the national HIV prevention programme.

Last month, UNAIDS Pacific Programme Coordinator, Stuart Watson urged the administration to redouble its efforts in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

His comments came after the Fiji Ministry of Health released figures showing an increase in the number of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Mr Watson says the fact that the interim administration has not reduced the budget for HIV prevention shows commitment on their part.
