Samoa's police commissioner, Papali'i Lorenese Neru, has been cleared after an investigation into a car accident he was involved in last October.

The minister of police, Toleafoa Apulu Fa'afisi, says, in a statement , that the office of the Attorney General has concluded that the cause of the accident was due to the careless driving of an oncoming vehicle.

The statement says this resulted in the commissioner's vehicle leaving the road to avoid a head-on collision and ending up in a ditch.

However, some police sources said the driver of the oncoming vehicle was never identified or located for questioning
