Korean Airlines is exploring the possibility of direct flights to the Northern Marianas island of Tinian.

The mayor of Tinian, Jose San Nicolas said he welcomes the idea and he met with airline representatives this week to discuss the matter.

The airline had pulled out from the CNMI in 1997 but resumed direct flights from Seoul to Saipan in 2002 before suspending its flights to Saipan again, a year later.

The Saipain Tribune newspaper reports currently Asiana Airlines services the Korean market.
