The future of the South Pacific Medical School in the Cook Islands is still in the balance.

The Cook Islands government asked for an independent investigation into the school earlier this month amid controversy over staffing and facilities.

A spokesperson says no decisions have been made by the government yet as to whether to formally recognise the school.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the medical school says the government's move is unfair.
