Cooks monitors Fiji developments

The Cook Islands government has established a monitoring group to watch events in Fiji and the welfare of Cook Islanders there, especially students.

Cook Islands Television says the group is under the leadership of the prime minister, Jim Marurai, and is working closely with the New Zealand government through the high commission in Rarotonga.

Mr Marurai is himself in the Fiji capital, Suva, attending a University of the South Pacific council meeting.

The monitoring group has already set up communication links with Fiji, including all Cook Islands students at places like USP, Fiji School of Medicine and religious institutions.
