4:57 pm on 25 September 2006

The Cook Islands Party candidate for Matavera has expressed concern about the reasons this snap election.

Kiriau Turepu won the recent by-election in Matavera , after which parliament was dissolved by the Queens Representative forcing a snap election.

Mr Turepu says while he's quietly confident of returning the same results this time, but says anything can happen between now and when the polls open .

"Anything can happen. There is a lot of, I wouldn't say dirty, going on. But there will be some, you know, people who will be desperate. By now, you know, other candidates realise their chances and they will be pushing hard. Whereas, I have my own groups, and the thing is to hold on to that group. And if this, they don't try then I will win this snap election comfortably."
