Police in Papua New Guinea say they suspect substantial funds are involved in an alleged fraud involving the governor of the Southern Highlands province.
PNG's police commissioner, Sam Inguba, has written to Hami Yawari asking him to front up to fraud detectives for questioning over the alleged mismanagment of community funds.
Police say Mr Yawari has failed to show up and if he continues to elude police, they will have to issue a warrant for his arrest.
The deputy police commissioner, Gari Baki, was unable to elaborate on the allegations except to say that he believed a substantial amount of money was involved.
"The request is for him to go to the national fraud and anti-corruption office in Port Moresby. I think he's in Moresby, he's been contacted and I'm sure that like a responsible leader he should turn up and answer the questions."
