One of the founding members of the Fiji Labour Party is calling for reform of the party to ensure that its elected leaders are accountable to the people.
The call has come from Krishna Datt, one of the five dissident senior members against whom Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry withdrew disciplinary charges in the Suva High Court yesterday.
Mr Datt has told Radio Legend that it is now time for change in the Labour Party which should have a constitution which focuses on consultation, dialogue and transparency.
He says such changes will be good for the Labour Party and the country as a whole.
Mr Datt says the fact that disciplinary charges against himself and four other senior members have been dropped highlights the need for change.
Mr Datt says the matter is expected to be raised at the party's national council meeting in Ba tomorrow.
The Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, has remained silent on the withdrawal of disciplinary charges against Mr Datt, fellow cabinet minister Poseci Bune, MPs Felix Anthony and Agni Deo Singh, and former senator Dr Atu Emberson Bain.
