Fiji Labour Party dissidents file for injunction against disciplinary charges

8:01 am on 12 August 2006

The five senior members of the Fiji Labour Party who have questioned decision making in the party have filed a High Court injunction against the disciplinary charges laid against them.

Radio Legend reports that their writ claims that the party general secretary, Mahendra Chaudhry, and the president, Jokapeci Koroi, do not have the powers to lay disciplinary charges and commence disciplinary proceedings.

Their application asks the High Court to stop Mr Chaudhry and Mrs Koroi from handling disciplinary matters while also stopping the national council meeting from going ahead on the 19th of this month.

Cabinet ministers Krishna Datt and Poseci Bune, MPs Felix Anthony and Agni Deo Singh, and former senator Dr Atu Emberson-Bain are facing charges of undermining Mr Chaudhry's leadership among other accusations.
