Stricken ship in PNG port

A listing bulk carrier loaded with sugar has limped to the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby, with the aid of three tugboats after crashing onto a reef off the eastern edge of the PNG mainland.

Marine salvagers refloated the Zhi Qiang after it hit Long Reef between Samarai and Misima Islands on July the1st while heading to South Korea.

The ship was carrying sugar out of Queensland.

PNG Maritime Safety Authority officers were making inquiries into whether there was any pollution from the ship after it grounded.
