Air Pacific to appeal order stopping domestic flights

Fiji's national airline, Air Pacific, is to appeal the High Court order issued last Friday ordering it not to start domestic flights with its new subsidiary, Fiji Airlines.

The order was issued following an application by the domestic carrier, Air Fiji, which is challenging Air Pacific's right to r-enter the domestic market it left more than 20 years ago.

Air Pacific has already acquired another domestic airline, Sun Air's assets and planes and also bought two French built ATR-42 mid-sized turbo-prop aircraft from Air Mauritius to begin domestic air services from July the 1st.

Air Pacific had planned to fly more tourists to Vanua Levu and Taveuni and grow the market by slashing air fares by about 50%.
