A member of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party is welcoming the government offer to a civil society member, John Roughan, to become the secretary to the prime minister and cabinet.
Matthew Wale says the offer, which Mr Roughan says he will accept, is a recognition of the role played by civil society in providing leaders and leadership in the country.
Mr Wale, who's also a civil society member, says it's a good sign from the government.
"It's going to be important in finding a meaningful, working relationship and partnership between the civil society and the government. And, having one of our own prominent leaders becoming a leader in government, I think, will I hope help to create greater understanding and greater meaning to the partnership."
Matthew Wale.
