Leading French Polynesian unions have called for a general strike on June the 1st in protest at a law adopted by the territorial assembly two weeks ago.
The so-called Sommers law is to change the role of union leaders.
The territory's president, Oscar Temaru, says the assembly should revisit the new law in discussions with the unions while describing the planned stoppage as a political move.
The teachers' union says it won't follow the strike call as not to disturb next week's exams.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that Moehau Teriitahi is the new minister for outer island affairs.
This comes only weeks after a re-shuffle which saw the opposition's Teina Maraeura be given the portfolio.
