French Polynesia's President Oscar Temaru has finalised a memorandum of understanding with the mayor of the New Zealand city of Manukau.

The deal signed with the mayor, Sir Barry Curtis, is aimed at boosting education, economic and trade ties between the French territory and the New Zealand city.

It is also said to aim at promoting business and joint ventures opportunities.

Sir Barry has also formalised a sister city relationship between Manukau and the town of Faa'a where Mr Temaru has been mayor.
