Move to spread French internet domain names

Moves are afoot in the French language communities to make better use of internet domain names.

The French regulatory organisation, AFNIC, says there is a good chance that internet users could broaden the use of the domain name .wf which stands for Walis and Futuna.

So far, the domain acronyms for New Caledonia and French Polynesia have won wide acceptance.

AFNIC also points out that other French territories have domain names available but find little interest for them to be taken up.

Popular internet domain names in the region are the ones held by Niue and Tuvalu, which are .nu andf .tv
