The opposition, Samoa Party, has promised to offer free education if it wins next month's general elections.

The party leader, Su'a Rimoni Ah Chong, says providing free education would ensure the goal of compulsory education for all the children of Samoa is met,.

The Samoa Observer quotes Su'a as saying that the Samoa Party could deliver this promise without increasing taxes.

According to Su'a huge savings could be made through ending what he called wasteful expenditure.

Among the examples he gave of what he claimed was unnecessary spending were the purchase of expensive cars and wasteful overseas trips.
