A Catholic group in East Timor says Indonesians accused of abusing human rights there are committing the same atrocities in the province of Papua.
The Australian, Sister Susan Connelly, of the Mary MacKillop East Timor Institute, makes the remarks in the latest edition of the Catholic Weekly newspaper.
Sister Connolly said in East Timor, Indonesia had subjugated people by changing the language of schools and commerce, and through these it had changed the culture of the people.
She said this had been done by moving thousands of people, particularly from Java, in a process she said was now being repeated in Papua.
Sister Connolly was commenting on the arrival of more than 40 Papuans on a beach in Queensland last month, claiming to have fled genocide.
They're being held and questioned by Australian immigration officials in the Indian Ocean territory of Christmas Island.
